Dynamics CRM: Security Based Roles

There be money in them thar hills! When Daniel McGinnis rowed his canoe to Oak Island, in Nova Scotia Canada, he probably didn’t realize at the time that he was about to stumble into the biggest money pit of all time. He happened to stumble upon a depressed area of ground where, oddly enough, a rope hung through. When he looked up, the rope was attached to a pulley, attached to a tree limb. That rope held something buried, and this curious 16 year old was going to find out what. There had been rumors circulating for years about a buried treasure nearby, and he just knew this rope would lead him right to it. But once he started digging he suddenly realized whoever had hidden this treasure certainly had a unique security system.

Speaking of security, Microsoft Dynamics CRM offers three levels of security for your office software. The first is Role-based security. Dynamics CRM groups sets of privileges together that describe the specific duties of a user. It also includes predefined security roles the sets user rights in one package to make user security management easier.  Record-based security within Dynamics CRM concentrates on access rights to specific records. This is a great feature if you don’t want employees to access certain files. Then there’s Field-level security that checks access to specific business fields used only for specific users or teams. The combination of role-based, record-level  and field-level security can be used to specify security rights for employees using your custom Microsoft Dynamics CRM software.

Now young Daniel was determined to find the hidden treasure. He returned the next day with a group of friends and began digging. The group dug down about 30 feet when they finally encountered a layer of flagstone. Beneath the flagstone was another layer of oak logs. This layering technique continued on until they reached 90 feet. Boy were these boys determined. They finally found a stone tablet that allegedly said, “40 feet below two million pounds are buried.” Pounds of what, I’m sure the boys never thought to ask. It had to be gold, and when gold fever strikes, what’s another 40 feet to dig?

The boys were driven away from their mining expedition by horrible weather. All of their work was lost to flooding and possibly a booby-trap created by using other tunnels to filter the water into the treasures crypt. The boys continued, building other tunnels, still trying to reached their beloved treasure, but to no avail.

Since the “Money Pit’s” discovery many have attempted to reveal its secretes only to fail miserably, or die trying. Digging a 90 foot hole can’t be all that safe, right?
